On Friday the 9th December Carrick-on-Suir Library celebrated their final 1916 centenary event. We’ve had a very busy year marking this special occasion and we were delighted to take part and contribute to a full programme of events in the Local Library.
The students and teachers of Ballyneale, CBS Greenschool, Gaelscoil Carraig na Suire, Newtown Upper and Presentation Primary worked very hard writing letters and selecting the item for the time capsule and preparing a party piece for today’s event. Over 130 students took part in total.
The boys from CBS Green School sang two songs, Dying Rebel and Kevin Barry, accompanied by the accordian. Presentation girls sang Grace and were joined by our singers and guitarists (thank you Jane) for the final two verses. We also performed a 1916 drama directed by Mary O’Hanlon. While the Gaelscoil finished the festivities very fittingly with Amhran na Bhfiann.
The entire event was a huge success here are some photos of the occasion.
