October Update

Cake Sale:

The annual cake sale organised by the Student Council will be held on Friday 25th October at 10:30am. It would be greatly appreciated if sweets and cakes could be made and brought to school on the morning of the cake sale. Contributions of any plastic/paper plates, bowls and napkins would be greatly appreciated. We will be supporting Meals on Wheels and the Day Care Centre in Carrick-on-Suir.

Cross Country:

The Tipperary Primary Schools Cross Country Championships will take place on Wednesday 23rd October in Marlfield, Clonmel. This competition is open to all children from 3rd to 6th class.

Pupils in 3rd and 4th class will take part in the 800m race while, pupils in 5th and 6th class, will take part in the 1000m race.  It is scheduled to begin at 10:30am.

Training on Tuesdays after school. Best of luck to all involved!

Football Training:

Football training will be held on Wednesdays after school.

A big well done to the U11 Boys Gaelic Football who played in Dundrum on Monday 14th October.

Futsal:

The FAI Futsal Competition will be held in Cahir Park AFC on 6th November (3rd & 4th Class).

Debating: 

The first round will be held on Tuesday 5th November against Rathgormach NS. The team is as follows: Raymond Walsh, Hassan Abbas Khan, Zach O’Keeffe, Alvin Zheng, Hugo MacMurphy, Finn O’Loughlin and Sam O’Keeffe.  The motion for Round 1 is: Primary school students should be banned from using a mobile phone. Best of luck to all involved.

National Dairy Council School Milk Scheme:

The school has signed up to the above scheme and this should be in place in the near future.  Pupils who have signed up for scheme will get a carton of milk daily (5 days a week).  The cost is 1 euro per week per pupil. 

Chess: 

Vanessa Hahessy has kindly offered to give chess lessons to pupils in 3rd to 6th class.  Lessons will commence Friday morning 8th November and continue every Friday for 6 weeks (3 weeks per classroom).  Many thanks to Vanessa for giving of her time to the pupils.  

Food Dudes:

The school will be participating in the Food Dudes Programme.  All classes will begin the programme on 18th November. This programme will run for 16 days for Junior/Senior Infants and First Class and 8 days for 2nd to 6th Class. Further information will be provided closer to the time.

Other:

  • A big well done to all who participated in the Munster Schools swimming competition over the weekend.
  • The Red Kettle Theatre Company will visit the school on Tuesday 12th November.
  • On 13th and 14th November, the HSE Hearing and Vision Screening for Junior Infants and school selectives will be carried out. Forms to be completed by parents will be sent home closer to the time.
  • Pupils from 3rd to 6th will attend the pantomime Aladdin on 18th December in UL, Limerick.
