Music is a very important part of a child’s overall development in the primary years. Children from first – sixth are taught music in the classroom by their teacher Ms Dempsey. The children are given appropriate vocal training in the school choir every week. Our choir consists of 60 children from first to sixth class. The children partake in an annual Christmas pageant/Concert in the church, which is a wonderful opportunity for parents to see their children perform on stage. The children finish their pageant by singing a selection of Christmas carols which they always thoroughly enjoy.
The children also take part in Royal Irish Academy of Music Choir exams. The children have completed two choir exams to date. An examiner from the Academy comes to the school to assess the children on their vocal ability. The children enjoy learning and performing their wide range of musical repertoire. The children received a high achievers award for their first choir exam, where every child in the choir received a silver medal. The examiner was most impressed by the standard and enthusiasm of the children. A sense of achievement and accomplishment was certainly felt by the children and staff!
Music is a vital part of the children’s lives here in Ballyneale NS. Every child is valued and encouraged to achieve their best. “Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí”!
