Ballyneale History Tour
Junior and Senior infants went on a history tour of Ballyneale village. First, they looked at the old and new part of Ballyneale school. Then they looked at the field across the road from the school where the first GAA football match was played. On their tour they saw the hall which was the old school before the new school was built. They looked at the postbox in the village and saw the crown on the postbox from the time when England ruled Ireland. They looked at the old house beside the pub with its tin roof and wooden sash windows. After that they heard about local man Thomas Kiely who won an Olympic gold medal a long time ago. They looked at the old master’s house beside the church and finished off their tour looking at the water pump which provided water to locals long ago.
