Congratulations to the Debating team who got off to a winning start, charming the adjudicators with their oratorical skills in the process.

A big well done to Keelan, Erin, Ava, Michaela, Genevieve and Megan.

Today they were proposing the motion “We can’t afford to send money to poor countries anymore,” against a strong side from S.S. Peter’s and Paul’s C.B.S. Clonmel.

Take a look at the event which was held in Ms Whelan’s room this am.

Debating

The school has entered the Concern’s Primary Schools’ Debating Competition.  The school will debate against S.S. Peter’s and Paul’s C.B.S. Clonmel and St. Michael’s N.S. Clerihan in January.

Debating Competition

A debate took place in the school today on the motion of ‘There should be an hour of exercise every day in school’. Ballyneale were opposing this motion.

Maeve, Oisín and Sarah were up against students from Rathgormack school who travelled to the school for the debate. By a very tight margin Rathgormack came out the winners and they now progress on to the second round of the debating competition.

Well done to all those involved. We hope it is an experience that they will benefit from.

Debating

A team of six students have started debating through the Waterford Teachers’ Centre debating competition.

The team consists of speakers Maeve [captain], Sarah and Oisín who are ably assisted by researchers, Issy, Michaela and Erin.

They had their first friendly debate against Knockmahon on Monday. Both teams spoke very well on the motion of ‘School uniforms are a good idea.’

We look forward to the first round of the debating competition on Friday the 20th when the team have to oppose the motion  ‘There should be an hour of exercise every day in school’. The team will be debating against Rathgormack NS who are proposing the motion.
