Our student council have signed up to the Plastic Free 4 Schools programme which helps schools to go plastic free, through 3 plastic free asks, and in turn, act as ambassadors for change in their communities. We have started this programme by asking parents/pupils to reduce the amount of plastic being used in their lunch boxes.
On the 13th March there will be a talk about the environmental damage of plastics for the pupils.
The Student Council are starting a new campaign from next Monday to aim for less plastic in our lunch boxes. Plastic Free 4 Schools aims to get rid of unnecessary plastics in school lunch boxes such as single use plastic bottles, straws, sandwich bags, cling film.
Here are some ways to get rid of plastic in our lunch boxes:
- Use a reuseable bottle.
- Avoid juices and smoothies with plastic straws.
- Use kitchen roll or kitchen parchment paper to wrap sandwiches and rolls.
Let’s try get rid of all single use plastic!
The Green-Schools committee are currently working on the 5th green flag which is on the theme of Biodiversity. We are working on our environmental review and creating Habitat Maps of the school grounds.
On Tuesday, pupils, staff and parents gathered to celebrate the raising of our Green Flag for Travel. Ms. Dempsey, the Green School committee and Mr. McHale spoke about how the school and parents managed to earn the Green Flag for Travel.
Afterwards, special guest, Mark O’Meara a former pupil of Ballyneale and now Captain of the Tipperary Minor Football team helped raise the flag.
Well done to Ms. Dempsey and all the pupils and parents involved.
The raising of the Green Flag for Travel takes place next Tuesday the 12th June.
We will be collecting our 4th Green Flag on the travel initiative on Wednesday the 23rd May. We will have a ceremony in June to celebrate this fantastic achievement.
