Don’t forget the Annual Easter Walk next Friday.
The Easter walk will take place on Friday morning April 7th, let’s keep our fingers crossed for a fine spell of weather. All are welcome.
Cake decorating/icing lessons with Siobhan Walsh and Sharon Harte will take place in the school from 2pm – 3pm for six weeks starting on Tuesday 28th February until Tuesday 4th April. Pupils in fourth and fifth class will take part in the lessons. We are very grateful to both Siobhan and Sharon for giving their time and passing on their skills to our pupils. Last year our pupils in fifth and sixth class thoroughly enjoyed these lessons
Kool School lessons will commence on Wednesday 11th January for seven weeks for all pupils in Junior Infants to 2nd Class. The Parents’ Association will subsidise these lessons and the cost will be €10.00 per pupil. The children must wear a tracksuit on the day and also on Fridays.
Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to help with the Annual Christmas Hamper Raffle, raising awareness, making the hampers and wrapping….
There was a huge turnout for the raffle itself in Ms Whelan’s classroom. A lot of people went home with fantastic hampers, thanks to all who kindly donated items for the raffle. It is important for the school that draws like this are supported, the money raised is used for the hiring of buses for swimming, out of school activities etc.
On Friday the 9th December Carrick-on-Suir Library celebrated their final 1916 centenary event. We’ve had a very busy year marking this special occasion and we were delighted to take part and contribute to a full programme of events in the Local Library.
The students and teachers of Ballyneale, CBS Greenschool, Gaelscoil Carraig na Suire, Newtown Upper and Presentation Primary worked very hard writing letters and selecting the item for the time capsule and preparing a party piece for today’s event. Over 130 students took part in total.
The boys from CBS Green School sang two songs, Dying Rebel and Kevin Barry, accompanied by the accordian. Presentation girls sang Grace and were joined by our singers and guitarists (thank you Jane) for the final two verses. We also performed a 1916 drama directed by Mary O’Hanlon. While the Gaelscoil finished the festivities very fittingly with Amhran na Bhfiann.
The entire event was a huge success here are some photos of the occasion.
A number of children have been invited to take part in the Library’s final 1916 commemoration event of the year this Friday December 9th at 11.00 a.m.
They have been busy writing “A letter to my Future Self” which will be part of the documents and objects placed in the time capsule which will be then sealed for 50 years. The capsule will be mounted on a wall in the library for all to see in the near future.
